A Lincoln homeowner is hoping to transform what she calls “Lincolnshire’s ugliest house” to its former glory.

Ellie Bryan, 30, who bought the property on Carholme Road, Lincoln, said she would like it to become “the best-looking house on the street”.

Describing the former police station as "a bit of an eyesore”, Ms Bryan said "people have told me it looks like cake frosting, shaving foam and ice cream."

She said she would remove the white texture render, believed to have been added in the 1970s, and restore the building's former appearance.

Ms Bryan said she became motivated to restore the house after learning of its history on social media and finding the original planning designs in the Lincolnshire Archives.

“I heard about people who were born, married or died there,” she said.

The property was known as West End Police Station between 1897 and 1963.

According to Ms Bryan, builders were told to make the house “look like a wedding cake” by a previous owner in the 1970s.

“The cake frosting will be coming off,” Ms Bryan said.

“I hope when it is done, people talk about the house for different reasons,” she added.

Ms Bryan's partner Adam Walker recalled how he would walk past the property when he was a student and remark on its appearance.

“It is a terribly ugly house, a crime against good taste,” he said.
