Seven held as armed police swoop on suspected theft
GettyArmed police were deployed after reports that a group carrying weapons were attempting to steal a car in Surrey on New Year's Day.
Seven people have been arrested following the suspected robbery in Tupwood Scrubbs Road, in Caterham, at about 22:20 GMT.
Surrey Police said armed officers were deployed as the suspects were believed to be carrying weapons. A police helicopter and drone were also used during the search.
Three men in their 30s, two men in their 20s and two teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and attempted robbery. They remain in custody.
Two vehicles linked to the incident were stopped at Cobham Services on the A3 at around 04:50 on Friday.
