A child has died following a medical emergency at a Surrey school, parents have been told.

Collingwood College in Camberley has told parents that a Year 8 student died after an incident at the secondary school on Monday.

A letter seen by the BBC said students at the school had also been informed, adding: "As a college community, we are deeply affected by this tragic loss."

A spokesperson for Surrey Coroner's Court said the death had been referred to the coroner.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) crews had also attended the scene.

Collingwood College is a co-educational secondary school with about 1,700 students.

A Secamb spokesperson said it was called at about 14:10 GMT and was joined by Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.

"A student was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to Frimley Park Hospital in a life-threatening condition", it added.
