Motorcyclist spared jail over death of woman, 86
PA MediaA motorcyclist who knocked down and killed an 86-year-old woman as she crossed a road has been given a suspended jail sentence.
Radue Tomescu admitted causing death by careless driving after hitting Joan Brown while travelling at up to 40mph in a 30mph zone on Streatham High Road in March 2023.
The 32-year-old, from Camberley, Surrey, was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for two years, banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
A hearing at the Old Bailey in February was told how Tomescu was driving in wet and icy conditions.
Brown was waiting for traffic lights to turn red but had started walking to the other side in a gap in traffic when the lights did not change.
Tomescu swerved as he approached the crossing and came off his bike, which hit Brown, who died from her injuries.
