How to cook a stew in a volcano
Cozido das Furnas (Furnas Stew) is the most exciting culinary treat in Azores islands, Portugal. Beef, pig ears, chicken, sausages and some vegetables are placed in a big cooking pot. Then the pot is buried for six to seven hours in the volcanic soil.
Locals started cooking this way hundreds of years ago, because it was cheaper to use the natural volcanic heat. Now it is a big tourist attraction.
