Calne will have its first Pride event in 2024

A Wiltshire town will be holding its first Pride event in 2024 after requests from the community.

Calne Pride has been planned for 1 June in the centre of the town and will have performances, stalls and a parade.

Church Street will be closed to traffic for the event, which will have artists on stage until 22:00 BST.

Town Councillor Robert Merrick said the new committee is "really energised" for it to become an annual event if 2024 proves popular.

"For a good couple if years, it's something that's been requested by the community," He explained.

"We tried to do it last year but sadly we failed.

"With a little bit of word of mouth we managed to get a huge number of people to come forward for a committee so we're able to put it on this year."

Funding has been secured for the first event from Calne Town Council.

Mr Merrick said they hope it could become self-sustaining.

He said they are looking for more artists for the stage but already have their headliners booked.

The event already has interest from stallholders and includes a parade going through the town at 15:00 BST.
