Beach wheelchairs offer access at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston

Beach wheelchairs have been made available to use at two seaside towns, free of charge.

People with limited mobility can use the contraptions to access beaches at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, in Norfolk.

The chairs have large pneumatic wheels which slide over the sand when pushed, Great Yarmouth Borough Council said.

The project was funded by EXPERIENCE project at Interreg Europe and the European Union.

Gorleston-on-Sea's chair is available all year round and can be booked online, up to four weeks in advance.

The chair at Great Yarmouth is available between Easter and October and can be booked by emailing Ruth Cockrill at marketing@great-yarmouth.gov.uk. However, in the future, it should be possible to book throughout the year, the council said.
