Worcestershire flood warnings and landslips after rain

Fifteen flood warnings have been issued in Worcestershire following rain in the county.

Six applied on the River Severn, including two apiece in Upton upon Severn and Worcester, with five on the Avon and four on the Teme.

Drivers were diverted because of landslips in Worcester and near Whitchurch in Herefordshire.

More than 15 road closures were reported on Friday by Worcestershire County Council and Hereford Highways.

Pitchcroft car park in Worcester was closed as a precaution because of rising flood water, according to the city council.

People were urged to use St Martin's Gate multi-storey or one of its other car parks instead.

The collapsed wall in Worcester was at the junction of Reservoir Lane with Rainbow Hill.

While in Herefordshire, the A40 was closed both ways between Ross and Monmouth because of a landslip near Whitchurch.

There were flood alerts issued for the Wye, Lugg and Arrow, as well as for the Leadon catchment.

In Worcestershire, alerts applied on the Severn, Salwarpe, Avon and Lower Teme and at Kempsey Village and Bow and Piddle Brook.

A road near Droitwich Leisure Centre turned into "a lake", BBC Hereford & Worcester reporter Tom Edwards said.

An abandoned BMW was partly submerged in the water but the sports centre remained open.

Droitwich High School, which is behind the centre, was closed to some pupils.
