Colchester student artists to showcase their work on city street
Colchester City CouncilStudent artists are showcasing their work in a city centre thanks to a new project.
The Alcove Project was set up last year by Colchester City Council and Colchester Sixth Form College to "encourage creativity" among students in the community.
The council said a diverse selection of work, from traditional paintings to digital pieces, were submitted.
A selection are now set to go on display on the city's Osborne Street.
Colchester City CouncilThe pieces demonstrated the "remarkable talent and creativity" of young artists, the council said.
The winners of the project, part of the council's broader vision to make Colchester a thriving cultural hub, have their art on display at the Level Best Art Café until 29 February.
After that the pieces will be displayed on Osborne Street.
Colchester City CouncilNatalie Sommers, portfolio holder for communities at Colchester City Council, said the exhibition was an opportunity for student artists to "share their creative vision with a wider audience".
"Young artists can flourish, residents can enjoy the vibrancy of the arts, and the community spirit is strengthened," she said.
Colchester Sixth Form College said it "jumped at the idea" of its students being able to create some local art to brighten up the city.
