A woman has been charged after two men were attacked outside an Islamic centre, police have said.

States of Jersey Police said the attack, which officers said they believed to be racially motivated, happened outside Jersey Islamic Centre on Aquila Road in St Helier at about 14:00 GMT on Friday.

A 36-year-old woman was charged with disorderly conduct, three counts of common assault and threats to kill.

On Friday, a 51-year-old man was also charged with disorderly conduct over the same incident, police said. Both are due to appear at the magistrate's court on 1 April.

The force said the victims were Muslim and confirmed the assault was alleged to have been racially motivated.

It said officers were working to support members of the Muslim community and would be conducting reassurance patrols for the remainder of the Islamic month Ramadan, which is due to end on Wednesday 18 or March or Thursday 19 March, depending on the sighting of the moon.

Anyone with information about the attack has been asked to contact police.
