Kennet Valley Primary School's SEMH unit closed earlier this month

A special needs unit that was temporarily closed due to staffing issues has reopened.

About 10 children were affected by the SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) unit's closure at Kennet Valley Primary School in Calcot, West Berkshire, earlier this month.

Parents previously voiced their concerns over the closure, saying they were "furious".

A West Berkshire Council spokesperson said it had worked with governors to take "appropriate and proportionate steps" to ensure it will "operate safely, sustainably and with a clear focus on pupil wellbeing and continuity of provision."

They added: "Our priority throughout has been the safety, wellbeing and educational continuity for children, alongside clear and compassionate communication with staff, pupils and families."

The authority opened the SEMH unit in September 2024.
