The family of a 16-year-old boy teenager who died in hospital after being stabbed have said he will be "greatly missed".

Wiltshire Police said Shayne Hambakachere was found with stab wounds on London Road in Chippenham just before 16:00 GMT on Saturday. He was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol but later died as a result of his injuries.

In a statement, Shayne's father Emmanuel Hambakachere said: "Shayne was a brave and bold young man, he was never afraid to speak his mind or to stand up for what he believed in."

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody in connection with the incident.

Emmanuel said his son had a "great sense of humour".

"We will miss the way he laughed so loudly without any care in the world," he added.

"Shayne was ambitious and driven, he was a hard worker with big dreams."

Wiltshire Police said people wanting to pay their respects to Shayne can leave flowers and cards at the gates of his old school, Hardenhuish School.

The tributes will then be added to a memorial tree in the school grounds.

Emmanuel said Shayne was always helpful at home and would do whatever was asked of him without complaining.

"We are comforted to know that Shayne had a wonderful time on 25 December, which we now realise was his very last Christmas," he said.

"We had a buffet and played lots of games all night and Shayne won most of them, and he enjoyed every minute of it.

"We are glad we got to share so many wonderful moments with him in the last couple of weeks."

Emmanuel also thanked staff at Southmead Hospital who worked to save Shayne's life and provided "wonderful care and support" to the family.

"One of the doctors offered to drive all the way from Bristol to Chippenham at 01:00 to fetch Shayne's sister so she could say goodbye to her brother.

"We want you to know that we were touched by your kindness and we will forever be grateful," he added.
