No trains can serve Melksham while the line is blocked

Trains have been cancelled and diverted after a car was driven onto a railway line.

Services in Wiltshire between Chippenham and Trowbridge, via Melksham, have been severely affected by the obstruction, with no trains running in the area.

Great Western Railway (GWR) confirmed a car had been driven onto the line, adding arrangements were being made to remove it. No trains will be able to serve Melksham in the meantime, it said.

Where possible, GWR said services between Swindon and Westbury would be diverted in both directions.

The operator added customers with tickets routed via Melksham would be allowed to travel via Bath Spa at no extra cost.

Replacement road transport has been put in place between Chippenham and Westbury and customers can also use their tickets on the local Faresaver bus route X34 between Chippenham, Melksham and Trowbridge.

Anyone with a ticket on a cancelled service can travel on the next available service at no extra cost, GWR said.
