Goodmanham Grange already has two poultry sheds

A poultry farm is increasing its capacity to 150,000 birds after expansion plans were approved.

R Stephenson & Sons applied for permission to build a third shed for 50,000 birds at Goodmanham Grange, near Market Weighton.

A report to East Riding of Yorkshire Council's planning committee said the closest residential property was about 2,625ft (800m) from the poultry sheds and there were concerns about an increase in vehicles bringing mud and silt on to public roads.

Under the planning conditions, development will only be allowed to begin once "wheel-cleaning facilities" have been provided.

Councillors heard the site, which is about 1.1 miles (1.8km) from Goodmanham village, was regulated under an Environment Agency environmental permit, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The farm already has two sheds. According to the plans, the third will house broiler chickens through a 38-day growing cycle. It will then be empty for 10 days for cleaning and preparation for the next flock.
