Islanders are being advised against swimming at a beach in Jersey due to water samples showing high levels E. coli.

Environment officials said the cause of the high levels at Greve de Lecq was unknown and it was being investigated by the pollution control team.

The government said the Infrastructure and Environment team would put up signage in the area as soon as possible.

"Anyone who has been swimming there and starts to feel unwell or has health concerns should speak to their doctor," it said.

It said 16 bays around Jersey were regularly monitored for their quality by the government between May and September each year.
