A disabled team has completed its first-ever 5km (three-mile) race in Surrey.

Nikki Roberts, CEO of the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People, said the event in Woking on Sunday went "really well".

"[We were] very blessed with the weather," she told BBC Radio Surrey.

Roberts said she helped guide Brian Stalley, who is blind, and his black Labrador assistance dog, Oasis, along the route.

She said they had raised nearly £600 for the charity, which campaigns for disabled people to live independently and have equal opportunities.

"To be honest, the important thing for us is raising awareness of the work we do," she said.

"We really want to make sure we can reach as many disabled people in Surrey as possible so we can support them and get them involved in the community."

Roberts urged people to get in contact with the charity.

"We will speak to anyone who wants to get involved," she said.
