Trains between Wilmslow and Crewe are affected due to damage to overhead wires

Train services have been affected in parts of Cheshire due to damaged overhead wires blocking the line.

Avanti West Coast said its services on the route between Wilmslow and Crewe may be diverted via Macclesfield and that Wilmslow would not be served.

Disruption was expected to last until the end of Tuesday, they added.

Some CrossCountry, Northern and Transport for Wales trains using the route have also been affected, according to Network Rail.

Northern said on its website that rail replacement services had been arranged for passengers travelling between Wilmslow and Crewe.

Bosses said journeys delayed by 15 minutes or more would be eligible for compensation.

If the train is cancelled, tickets would also be valid on either one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before the booked service, or either one of the two immediately after.

Passengers who no longer wish to travel because their train was delayed or cancelled can request a full refund from where their ticket was bought.
