Heavy rain sees school closures amid flood worries

Flooding, or the likelihood of flooding on surrounding roads, has caused the school closures, staff said

Fifteen schools have been closed after heavy overnight rain affected towns and villages across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The schools, five in Worcestershire and ten in Herefordshire were shut, staff said, due to concerns about pupils and staff getting in safely. Two Herefordshire school have been partially closed to some year groups.

Storm Chandra brought heavy rain and strong winds to the UK on Tuesday with a number of flood alerts.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning until 10:00 GMT on Tuesday which covers Herefordshire, but the worst weather is expected in the south west and the north of England.
