Ferries resume but drivers warned of crashing waves
BBCFerry sailings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire have resumed after cancellations on Tuesday, but a warning of large waves crashing onto coastal roads remains in place.
The Manxman left Douglas for Heysham shortly after 07:00 GMT, an hour earlier than scheduled following the cancellation of Tuesday evening's crossing and its overnight return due to gales.
An amber weather warning for coastal overtopping has been put in place between 10:00 and 14:00, with Douglas Promenade set to be particularly affected.
As a result of the conditions, Douglas Council has urged drivers to avoid using the Bottleneck Car Park on Loch Promenade until the weather has improved on Thursday.
Other areas likely to be affected include Ramsey and Laxey promenades, with disruption on parts of Castletown Promenade and Shore Road in Rushen also possible.

The council also said the Eastern Civic Amenity Site would remain closed on Wednesday morning because of the blustery conditions, which were forecast to see gusts of up to 50mph (80km/h) hit the island.
Ronaldsway Met Office has also warned of slippery conditions on the island's roads, with a warning for ice in place until 16:00.
