Icy conditions following snowfall overnight have led to the closure of the Isle of Man's Mountain Road.

Police said the A18 had been shut between the Gooseneck bend and the Creg Ny Baa junction due to the conditions overnight.

A yellow weather warning between midday and 16:00 GMT has also been put in place for large waves breaking over coastal roads and walkways bringing debris ashore.

As a result of the ongoing rough seas, the morning sailing of the Manxman from the island to Lancashire was pushed back by an hour to 09:00.

The knock-on effect of that has seen the return journey to Douglas from Heysham Port delayed until 14:45.

It follows the cancellation of all of Thursday's ferry crossings due to the stormy weather.

Ronaldsway's Met Office said coastal areas including the whole of Douglas Promenade, the western end of Shore Road Rushen, Derbyhaven and Laxey and Ramsey promenades would once again be hit by crashing waves at high tide.

As a result of the ongoing conditions – which brought down part of a wall in the Sunken Gardens on Thursday – the Bottleneck Car Park on Loch Promenade has been closed by Douglas Council until Saturday.
