Tuesday's planned evening sailing to Heysham and the Douglas-bound return have been cancelled

Gales have led to the cancellation of two ferry sailings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire, with further sailings also at risk.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has called off the 19:15 GMT crossing of the Manxman to Heysham Port and its overnight Douglas-bound return.

The firm has also warned Wednesday's daytime sailings of the flagship vessel were also in danger of cancellation due to the conditions.

The disruption to ferry passengers comes alongside warnings for continued icy conditions and large waves breaking over coastal areas at high tide.

Ronaldsway Met Office has issued a 24-hour yellow weather warning for ice on upland roads until 16:00 on Wednesday.

An amber warning has also been put in place between 10:00 and 14:00 on Wednesday, which forecasters said would result in "significant overtopping of waves" bringing debris ashore.

Douglas Promenade would be "particularly susceptible", with Laxey and Ramsey promenade also at risk along with western parts of Castletown Promenade and Shore Road in Rushen, they added.

Gusts of up to 50mph (80km/h) are expected to hit the island overnight and on Wednesday.
