Your Pictures: Spectacular orange moons
skywatcher wendyA magnificent full moon with an orange tint was photographed by locals in north-east England this week.
Senior weather presenter Paul Mooney said the satellite's tint could be explained in part by the fact it was near to the horizon meaning light reflecting off the moon passed through more of the Earth's atmosphere than usual.
"More of the shorter wavelengths of visible light are scattered by the atmosphere and what we observe are the longer wavelengths which are red," he said.
Luckily if you missed the spectacle, the BBC's Weather Watchers were on hand to capture some glorious snaps. We picked some of our favourites.
