A driver in his 20s was killed when a car hit a tree.

Northamptonshire Police said the crash happened on the westbound A45 between Ditchford Lane, Rushden, and Turnells Mill Lane, Wellingborough, at about 21:25 GMT on Friday.

The driver of a grey Vauxhall Mokka was travelling towards Wellingborough in the outside lane when he hit with the central reservation, travelled across the carriageway onto a grass verge and collided with a tree. He died at the scene, the force said.

His front-seat passenger, an 18-year-old man, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries.

The force said it wanted to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage.
