Charity walk in boy's memory raises thousands

A charity walk in memory of an "awesome" 17-year-boy has raised more than £4,000 for two local mental health causes.

Bradley Robertson from Brixworth, Northamptonshire, took his own life in January.

On Saturday, dozens of people took on a 7.5 mile (12km) walk around Pitsford Water in the county as part of a day of fundraising activities to support Wellingborough-based Kelly's Heroes and Wootton-based The Man Cave.

Organisers of the Bradley's Peaky Walk and Fundraiser said it "far exceeded our expectations".

The event was so-called in recognition of Bradley's love for the TV show Peaky Blinders and saw participants take part in bright pink shirts.

It was followed by a raffle and live music at the nearby George Inn pub in Brixworth.

Bradley's mother, Amanda Robertson, said the family felt inspired to raise awareness of mental health in young people.

She said: "To be honest, a lot of the symptoms [of Bradley's depression] weren't obvious.

"We're just trying to get as much awareness out there and I'll be happy if the whole world knows who Bradley was."

Kelly's Heroes is a charity which provides counselling for bereaved parents following suicide, while The Man Cave is a mental health support group designed for men.
