Local people are "desperate" for improvements to the Metheringham junction

Traffic lights are set to be installed at an accident hotspot.

The Metheringham crossroads, where the A15 meets the B1202, is one of the five worst sites for accidents in Lincolnshire, according to the county council.

In addition to the installation of four-way lights, the junction is due to be widened, a council report said.

District and parish council member Fran Pembery described the crossroads as "absolutely lethal" and said local people were desperate for improvements to be made.

"There's accident after accident," she said. "The A15 is so busy, and the junction is particularly bad in the morning and late afternoon."

Accident data showed there were 20 collisions at the junction between 2019 and 2024, the county council said.

A man in his 60s died following a crash at the crossroads in January 2024.

Councillors are due to discuss the improvements at a meeting of the highways and transport committee on Monday, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The report prepared for the meeting described the crossroads as "a collision hotspot and a point of significant traffic congestion".

It is hoped the work will be carried out early next year.
