Police said a car was driven at officers in January

A man has been jailed for driving a car at three police officers and hitting two of their vehicles.

David Clothier, 45, also damaged a third car during the escape attempt in Paynes Road, Southampton, in the early hours of 25 January.

He pleaded guilty at Southampton Crown Court to three counts of assaulting an emergency worker, three of criminal damage and one charge of aggravated vehicle taking.

Clothier, of no fixed address, was jailed for 34 months and was given a 27-month driving ban that will begin after his release.

Previously police said they tried to stop a vehicle as part of inquiries they were conducting in a search for a missing person.

No officers were injured in the incident, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said.
