A rescued border collie cross dog is celebrating her first Mother's Day after raising seven puppies and finding her "forever home", a charity has said.

Dogs Trust Shoreham said it took Bella in when a change in her owner's living circumstances meant they were no longer able to look after her.

The West Sussex charity said she charmed staff and volunteers but carers noticed a change in her behaviour towards the end of 2025, when it was found she was due to give birth.

On New Year's Day, Bella gave birth to seven healthy puppies named Ano, Asher, Bubbles, Fizz, Novo, Pop and Sylvester - all New Year's themed as a nod to their birthday.

Bella was described as a "devoted" mother and cared for the puppies, until they were matched with new families.

It was also a happy ending for Bella, who was adopted on 18 February and is now settling into her forever home, the charity said.

Kirsty Hayward, rehoming centre manager at Dogs Trust Shoreham, said: "Bella was such a sweet and friendly girl, and she was adored by everyone here.

"She did an amazing job raising her puppies, and it's been so lovely to see each of them go off to their own homes.

"We're absolutely delighted that Bella has now found a wonderful family of her own too - it's the perfect happy ending for such a special dog this Mother's Day."
