Ministers to respond to dog beach ban petition
ReutersGovernment of Jersey ministers will have to respond to a petition calling for the easing of dog restrictions on beaches, after it gained more than 1,000 signatures.
The petition argues the rules are unnecessary once children are back in school and the busiest part of the tourist season has passed.
Sarah Esteves, who started the petition said it was "ludicrous" dogs have to be on leads with "beaches currently empty".
The current rules stipulate dogs must be on a lead between 10:30 and 18:00 from 1 May to 30 September.
That applies to every beach on the island.
The petition seeks to change that by shortening the window to between 30 May and 7 September.
More than 1,200 people have signed the petition so far.
Once a petition crosses 1,000 signatures, Government of Jersey ministers must provide a response.
At 5,000 signatures, a petition will be considered for debate within the States Assembly.
