Candidates announced for city by-election
BBCCandidates have been announced for a by-election triggered by the death of former lord mayor of Leicester Manjula Sood.
Voters in the city's Stoneygate ward will go to the polls on 19 February to choose a new councillor to represent them on Leicester City Council.
There are eight candidates hoping to take the seat, which Sood won for Labour in 2023.
The Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Greens and Reform UK candidates were confirmed as challengers to Labour on Friday, along with a candidate from the One Leicester party and two independents.
The city council is currently run by Labour, which holds 31 of the 54 available council seats and has Sir Peter Soulsby as elected mayor.
The Conservatives are the largest opposition party and have 15 seats on the authority.
There are three Green city councillors, three Liberal Democrats, and one independent member.
