A University of Lincoln student drowned while under the influence of alcohol, an inquest has heard.

The body of Connor James Calleja, 20, was found during a search of Foss Bank – a body of water near Brayford Pool – on 13 January.

The inquest into his death was opened at the Myles Cross Centre in Lincoln by coroner Jayne Wilkes on Thursday and adjourned until 15 July.

Connor, from Market Harborough, Leicestershire, had last been seen on 11 January on the university campus.

In a tribute after his death, his family said: "Losing him has left us completely lost, but we take comfort in knowing he was happy and loved by all those around him.

"We are so incredibly proud of him and that will stay with us forever."
