Police have been given more time to question a suspect arrested on suspicion of murder after a shooting in Nottingham.

Emergency services were called to a property in Ryeland Gardens, in The Meadows, shortly after 05:30 GMT on Saturday.

A 24-year-old man sustained a fatal gunshot wound and died a short time later despite treatment from paramedics, with police recovering a shotgun from the scene.

A 34-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on the same day, has additionally been detained on suspicion of possessing a shotgun, assaulting an emergency worker and a public order offence. Detectives were granted extra time on Sunday to question the suspect, who remains in custody.

Police reassured residents that the shooting was "an isolated incident"

Det Insp Clare Gibson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Our sympathies are with the victim's family and friends at this difficult time, and they are being supported by our specially trained officers.

"I'd like to reassure residents that we believe this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

"We have now been granted extra time to continue questioning a suspect as part of our investigation and our inquiries are still ongoing, so we'd ask anyone who has any information but hasn't shared it with us yet to please do so immediately."
