Live facial recognition (LFR) technology has led to the arrest of a man on suspicion of rape, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police said the 26-year-old was also being held on suspicion of harassment, coercive control and theft.

A spokesperson said the man had been wanted in connection with a rape committed in Salford in September 2025 and a domestic incident in Oldham in May last year.

The force, which has been using LFR since October last year, said a total of four arrests were made after more than 40,000 faces were scanned on Wednesday and Friday.

The other arrests involved a 59-year-old man wanted on recall to prison and breach of sex offender notification requirements, a 55-year-old man on suspicion of theft and a 48-year-old man also in relation to theft offences.
