A drug dealer repeatedly stabbed a man staying at his home when his victim said he no longer wanted to sell for him.

Before fleeing the attack scene, Martin Davies, 36, stabbed 28-year-old Kailem Gibson several times at his house on Gilmerton Drive in the Newton Heath area of Manchester on 29 August, Manchester Crown Court heard.

The victim was taken to hospital but died the following day, said Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Davies, cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter, was jailed for 19 years. Det Ch Insp Louise Edwards said she hoped the dead man's family could be "left to grieve" after this "shocking incident".

The family said: "It wasn't the outcome we wanted and it does not take [away] the pain our family feels every single day.

"Nothing can bring Kailem back and the loss we carry will remain with us forever.

"Kailem was full of life and had a personality that could light up any room. He was funny, always laughing and joking and he had a way of making the most out of everything.

"He never took life too seriously and always managed to make people smile even in difficult moments."

Kailem Gibson's family said his "laughter, energy and kindness touched everyone who knew him"

"To us, Kailem was so much more than the victim of a crime.

"He was a loving son, brother, father, nephew, cousin and friend, and he meant the world to our family.

"His laughter, energy and kindness touched everyone who knew him and his absence has left a hole in our lives that can never be filled.

"His memory will live on in our hearts forever."

The family said they hoped Kailem's story reminded people of the devastating consequences of violence and encourages change "so that other families do not have to go through what we have".

They added: "We want to use this moment to say clearly that knife crime is totally unacceptable and no family should have to experience the pain and devastation that comes from using a knife and losing a loved one in this way.

"We kindly ask that our family's privacy is respected as we continue to grieve."

Edwards said: "This was a shocking incident where a young man's life was taken. Our thoughts will always remain with Kailem, his family and his loved ones."
