A 72-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man from South Yorkshire who went missing six years ago.

Richard Dyson, 55, disappeared in November 2019, with his remains discovered at a property on Broadcarr Road in Barnsley earlier this year.

A post-mortem examination later confirmed he died as a result of shotgun wounds, South Yorkshire Police said.

Christopher Wright, of Sheffield Road, Hoyland, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates' Court earlier. He did not enter a plea and was remanded into custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday.

Mr Wright has also been charged with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body as well as 27 firearms offences.

Officers said a second suspect, a 72-year-old man from Barnsley, had been rearrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday before being released on police bail.
