Man jailed for attempted murder over stabbing
South Yorkshire PoliceA man who stabbed another man in the neck during a fight has been jailed for 23 years after being found guilty of attempted murder.
Lewis Parker, 22, was seen on CCTV footage pulling a knife from his waistband and slashing the victim across the neck on Market Street in Hoyland near Barnsley on 14 March 2025.
Parker, of Keppel Road in Sheffield, fled the scene but was later arrested. He was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court earlier.
Det Con Angela Bowen from South Yorkshire Police said the injury Parker caused was "so severe that doctors have said the victim was lucky to be alive".
"Parker inflicted serious harm on his victim before callously fleeing the scene," she said.
"This incident is another reminder of the damage carrying a knife can cause."
Parker also pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of Class B and C drugs.
