Pedestrian killed by HGV in motorway crash

A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a HGV on a motorway.

Police said an "elderly man" had been struck by a white DAF Trucks HGV on the southbound carriageway of the M1 at junction 37 in Barnsley at about 02:15 GMT and died at the scene.

A spokesperson said identification was not yet confirmed and officers were trying to establish next of kin.

Witnesses or anyone who saw the man before the collision, either on Dodworth Road or the southbound entry slip road, are being asked to contact police.
