A new Marks and Spencer store in Hull is expected to open in autumn/winter 2027

A new Marks and Spencer (M&S) store in Hull is due to open in late 2027, the company told a local MP.

Plans to replace the existing Simply Food store at Kingswood Retail Park with a food, home and clothing store were approved by Hull City Council earlier this year.

Dame Diana Johnson, Hull North and Cottingham MP, wrote to M&S to ask for the store's expected completion date.

She said the company's head of external affairs confirmed work is expected to begin on site in late 2026 ahead of the store opening in autumn/winter 2027.

Hull's M&S store on Whitefriargate closed in 2019. The city's only M&S shop currently is the Simply Food store in Kingswood.

The plans for the new store involve dividing the existing Matalan store into two units, with Matalan continuing to trade from a new, smaller space.

Planning documents submitted to the council earlier in the year explained that the existing premises was "too large for Matalan's business model requirements".

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, it is said the current M&S food store at Kingswood is "too small to meet M&S's business model requirements".

In her letter to M&S, Dame Diana said: "This would be a very welcome development for my constituency in terms of jobs, regeneration and an expanded retail offer."
