The roundabout improvements in the Kingswood area of Hull are being part-funded by government

Work to improve two roundabouts in Hull will start on Monday.

The roundabout at the junction of Wawne Road and Bude Road and the one at Ennerdale Leisure Centre in Kingswood will have traffic measures in place from 2 March.

Hull City Council said when complete the work would "improve traffic flow and reduce congestion" in the area.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said the improvements represented "a major investment in our city's future" and would "deliver real benefits" for people.

The authority said improving traffic flow had "become necessary" following the completion of housing developments in the area.

The schemes will also seek to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians with new crossing points.

The funding has come from the council's capital programme as well as from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The council anticipated the work would be completed by the end of the year.

Traffic measures

Traffic management in place from 2 March:

  • Narrow lanes on Holwell Road and Bude Road
  • A northbound closure on Wawne Road, between the roundabout and the entrance to Kingswood Academy, until the end of April
  • Diversion route via Wawne Road, Diversity Drive, Richmond Lane, Grosvenor Road, Richmond Way, Barnes Way, Raich Carter Way, John Newton Way and Bude Road
  • Narrow lanes on Thomas Clarkson Way (southbound) and Ennerdale (north)
  • Northbound lane closure on A1033 Ennerdale, between Sutton Road and the roundabout, until early October
  • Temporary bus gate in place around the Wawne Road closure, via the emergency access road from Bude Road through Foredyke Nature Reserve, to ensure that bus journey times are unaffected throughout the works
