The M1 at Leicester has reopened after a spillage of offal on the carriageway.

National Highways said one lane was closed northbound between junctions 21 and 21A while clear-up work took place, but confirmed at 15:47 GMT on Thursday the road was open again as normal.

The northbound exit slip road to Leicester Forest East services, which was also closed, reopened at 19:39, the transport body confirmed.

Drivers were warned of delays of 45 minutes and five miles of congestion.
