Burglar falls four times while trying to flee raid

Andrew Pickering fell four times while trying to get away

A burglar took a number of tumbles while trying to get back out of a service station he had broken into.

Durham Police has released footage of Andrew Pickering's failed efforts to flee the station in Ouston, near Chester-le-Street, in October.

It shows the 50-year-old falling from the ceiling four times, before eventually heading for a side door.

Pickering, of Marx Crescent in Stanley, has been jailed for a year after pleading guilty to burglary charges.

Durham Police said he had left a "significant amount of blood" while trying to run away.

The footage shows Pickering entering the service station via a hole in the roof and ransacking the shop, causing about £3,200 worth of loss and damage.

He then tried to leave the same way, attempting to use a ladder but falling repeatedly.

An accomplice, Daniel Reay, 46, also pleaded guilty to burglary and was handed a community order.

Reay also needs to complete alcohol treatment and rehabilitation activity.
