National Pothole Day shines a light on the state of England's roads.

The Department for Transport's recent ratings map judged councils on current highway conditions and how effectively they spend the government's £7.3bn, announced in November, to fix roads over the next four years.

Authorities in Portsmouth and West Berkshire achieved top ratings, while Slough Borough Council was given a bottom score.
