A "temporary" fix has been completed to repair potholes on a busy roundabout which have been described by drivers as "craters".

Residents have complained about the potholes on the Milton Interchange Roundabout under the A34 which they said were "damaging and needed urgent repairs".

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council confirmed that a "temporary fix" is in place before "major resurfacing next month" which has been delayed due to the cold weather.

Conservative councillor for Didcot West, Ian Snowdon said: "While this is a welcome step, it's important that the planned full resurfacing goes ahead as scheduled to ensure a longer-term solution."

Cllr Snowdon said: he visited the site and there was a "significant amount of debris present, clearly demonstrating the damage being caused by these potholes".

He said: "I can see the potential serious injury to a motorcyclist let alone the damage already seen to cars.

"I'm pleased that urgent temporary repair work has now been completed and the road reopened.

"This addresses the immediate safety concerns and is a welcome step."

A spokesperson from Oxfordshire County Council said: "The recent prolonged cold weather has resulted in a more rapid deterioration of the road surface than initially anticipated.

"This is a temporary fix before a major resurfacing scheme next month.

"The repairs were undertaken using our Bobcat machine, rather than simple sweep-and-fill measures.

"They are designed to provide a robust interim solution until the resurfacing scheduled for the end of February is implemented."
