A lorry driver who was over the alcohol limit has been banned from driving after he crashed on the A14 in Suffolk, leaving it partially closed for several hours.

The HGV hit the central reservation near Bury St Edmunds, between junctions 44 and 45 eastbound, at about 07:45 GMT on Friday.

Lukasz Wojciechowski, 44, of Clarendon Way, Colchester, Essex, admitted drink driving at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

He was disqualified from driving for 16 months and handed £2,412 in fines.

The outside lanes on both sides of the A14 were closed initially, with the eastbound carriageway totally shut from 09:00 until 13:00.

Suffolk Police said Wojciechowski failed a roadside breath test and was arrested at the scene.

The force said a number of drivers were seen by officers filming the scene of the collision as they drove past.

It said their details were taken and they would be sent fixed penalty notices.
