The death of a man whose body was found outside a house in Surrey is being treated as "unexplained", police have said.

Surrey Police said officers were called to Hazel Avenue in Guildford just after 07:15 GMT on Friday by a member of the public who had discovered the body.

The force said formal identification has not yet taken place but officers believe they have identified the man, who is in his 30s. His next of kin have been informed.

Police said they do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances or wider risk to the public.

The force said it was making a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to police contact with the man before his death.

Hazel Avenue was closed while police investigated but has since reopened and officers said they were no longer appealing for information.
