Herefordshire Council said it wanted to maintain its schools to the highest standard

More than £5.5m has been allocated for essential maintenance and repairs at Herefordshire schools.

Herefordshire Council said £2.77m would be used for essential building maintenance while £2.79m was earmarked specifically for improvements to Aylestone School in Hereford.

The latter would include a full boiler replacement, remedial works to Broadlands House and re-roofing of the site's CDT block.

The authority said it formed part of its strategy to "maintain school buildings to the highest standard".

Councillor Ivan Powell explained that it was a "key ambition" to ensure all children were able to access a good quality education.

"It's important to show our children that we value their education by maintaining our school facilities," he said.

Projects would also include enhancing environmental performance to support long-term net zero ambitions, a council spokesperson added.
