After two months, Hereford FC will return to its own stadium

Fans have expressed their relief and excitement that their football club will finally return to its home stadium after heavy rain forced it to play from other venues.

Hereford FC last played a match at its Edgar Street grounds on 10 January due to pitch issues caused by the weather, but are set to make a comeback on Tuesday evening.

The club faced a series of postponements in recent weeks, creating an end-of-season fixture backlog.

Fan Malcolm Burridge told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "It feels like such a long time since we played a home game, it will feel like a relief. The atmosphere will be extra special because of how long it's been."

The Bulls are due to host Leamington FC in a game between two of National League North's bottom three clubs.

Supporter Matthew Rowe said: "We've been going around these different grounds for the last few weeks, making do, trying to make an atmosphere and temporary homes but nothing quite replicates being at Edgar Street.

"There's a real buzz around the fan base at a moment, it feels like the football's finally back properly."

'Renewed energy'

In the interim, the club has been able to play some of its home games at Worcester's Sixways stadium and at Redditch United, and chairman Chris Ammonds said he was grateful for their hospitality.

Manager Aaron Downes has been in charge for the past five matches and joins the fans in his excitement for the team to head home.

He commented: "I honestly can't wait to get back, I'm so happy that we've got a win to go into, so hopefully a bit of confidence, a bit of belief can swell the stands and get a few more coming through the door with renewed energy."
