Donations help pupils mark Christmas Jumper Day
Hull City CouncilMore than 140 Christmas jumpers have been donated to primary school students in Hull.
The appeal by the city council was to ensure pupils had something to wear on the annual Christmas Jumper Day on Thursday, which raises money for the Save the Children charity.
The clothing was dropped off at the council's customer services centres and at branches of Beercocks estate agents.
Councillor Charles Quinn said it was "the biggest collection yet" of jumpers.
"A special thank you to St Andrews Primary School in Kirk Ella, who donated 56 jumpers, massively contributing to the final figure and success of this year's appeal," he said.
"The donations have now been dropped off at four primary schools across Hull and will help lots of local families enjoy the festivities, including today's Christmas Jumper Day."
According to the council, one pupil who received a festive sweater said they felt "grateful" and "happy" to have received the donation.
"For many families, Christmas is an added financial pressure", a city council spokesperson said.
"This appeal is designed to ensure that every child can take part in the festive celebrations, while also promoting sustainability and reuse."
