Christmas jumper appeal to support local families

A council is appealing for donations of children's Christmas jumpers to help support local families and reduce textile waste.

Hull City Council said it wanted to spread some "Christmas cheer" by encouraging people to donate their unwanted festive attire.

"For many families, Christmas is an added financial pressure, and this jumper collection is designed to help ensure all children can take part in the festive celebrations," a spokesperson said.

The deadline for donations is 3 December and all donated items would be sorted and distributed in time for Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day on 11 December.

Councillor Charles Quinn, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, said: "Over the past few years, we've collected hundreds of Christmas jumpers and delivered them to local schools.

"This year, we're aiming for our biggest collection yet."

Donation drop-off points include The Wilson Centre, The Orchard Centre, as well as any Beercocks estate agents in Hull and the East Riding.

The council said it could also arrange for items to be collected.

"Let's make sure every child can join in the fun," Quinn added.
