Police said officers made the discovery on Friday south of Fort William

Police say cocaine worth an estimated £600,000 was found in a car stopped by officers in Lochaber.

The discovery was made at about 13:50 on Friday during a search of the vehicle on the A82, just south of Fort William.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the seizure.

Det Insp Angus Morrison described the haul as a "significant recovery".

Morrison said the seizure underlined Police Scotland's commitment to tackling serious organised crime.

He said: "This very significant recovery sends a clear message that we will not tolerate illegal drugs in our communities.

"Our officers are determined to protect the public from this harmful criminality by disrupting the sale of illegal substances, preventing them being circulated on the streets of Scotland and addressing the concerns of local people."
