The main vessel on Lochaber's Corran Ferry route has been hit by a fault less than 24 hours after returning to service following a three-month annual refit.

MV Corran was back in service at 18:00 on Wednesday before being withdrawn due to bad weather.

Highland Council said the boat experienced a "technical issue" after resuming services earlier on Thursday.

The relief vessel, MV Maid of Glencoul, is covering the route.

The service, which involves a five minute crossing of the Corran Narrows on Loch Linnhe, is run by Highland Council.

A spokesperson said MV Corran was suspended while the issue was investigated.

Earlier this week, construction work started on a £58m project to improve the ferry service.

Highland Council is building new slipways and other improved facilities at either side of the Corran Narrows.

A new electric ferry is going to be acquired to serve the route when the new infrastructure is in place.
